Travelling to China’s busiest airport for the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations 2019

The China CAA has imposed certain restrictions in its busiest airport Beijing Capital International Airport (ZBAA/PEK) in preparations of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC) which starts today. iJET discusses what operators need to know about the airport restrictions at Beijing Capital International Airport (ZBAA/PEK).

Beijing Capital International Airport

ZBAA/ PEK is not only the busiest airport in China, it is also the busiest airport in whole of Asia and the second busiest in the world in terms of passenger traffic.

Distance from the city centre: 30 km approximately

Restrictions at Beijing Capital International Airport

  • For airport slots, priority will be given to aircrafts carrying CDAC participants.
  • During the May 13-16 (opening ceremony) and May 21-23 (closing ceremony), only one slots will be provided to non-CDAC participating aircraft
  • Aircrafts carrying CDAC participants will have to show sponsor letters. Also, they need to mention CDAC in the flight permit request application.
  • From May 12 to 17 airport parking will only be provided to aircrafts carrying CDAC participants, medical and emergency flights.
  • Even for aircrafts carrying CDAC participants parking will be provided on first-come, first served basis.

Alternative airport in Beijing

Beijing Nanyuan Airport (ZBNY / NAY), a joint civil/military airport, can be used as an alternative to Beijing Airport (ZBAA/PEK). It is the oldest airport in China. The airport will be closed once the new Beijing Daxing International Airport opens in October 2019.
