The speculations about the transfer of flight operations from Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport has been going on since last year. The official transfer from Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport will start on 5th April 2019, at 00:00 UTC and end on 6th April 2019, at 21:00 UTC. The transfer period will be of 45 hours.
During the transition, both Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport will only be available for base carriers’ flights. The airports will have a common reduced capacity per hour, as explained below.
From 6th April, 21:00 UTC, Istanbul Atatürk Airport will be closed to scheduled/unscheduled domestic and international commercial passenger flights. But it will be available for
After 6th April, 21:00 UTC, capacity per hour for Istanbul Atatürk Airport will be 5 Arrival and 5 Departure, total 10 traffic. This will help to avoid potential problems with the flow of air traffic and to provide safe and efficient ATC services for Istanbul Airport.
After the transition, capacity per hour for Istanbul Airport will be 40 arrivals, 40 departures, total 80 traffic.
But between 6th April 21:00 UTC and 20th April 2019 21:00 UTC, reduced capacity per hour for Istanbul Airport will be applied as 35 Arrival, 35 Departure total 70 traffic.
The current IATA code for Istanbul Atatürk Airport is IST and for Istanbul Airport it is ISL. But from 6th April 2019 00:00 UTC, IATA code for the airports will be reversed. For Istanbul Atatürk Airport it will be ISL and for Istanbul Airport it will be IST.
